Next week, Sony will raise the cost of PS Plus memberships

Sony has revealed that all three tiers of its PlayStation Plus service will have varying, but not minor, pricing increases starting in a few days.

An official blog post outlining September’s free games revealed the rise. The price increase will start on September 6, 2023, which is next week, and will have an impact on all areas, however each one will be affected differently.

Here are the current prices for each PS Plus subscription tier for a full year, just for fast reference:

$59.99, £49.99, or €59.99 for PlayStation Plus Essential
PS Plus Extra costs $99.99, £83.99, or €99.99.
$119.99, £99.99, or €119.99 for Play Station Plus Premium.
And starting on September 6, these are the 12-month prices:

PS Plus Essential costs $79.99, £59.99, or €71.99.
$134.99, £99.99, or €125.99 for PlayStation Plus Extra
$159.99, £119.99, or €151.99 for PlayStation Plus Premium.
So, any way you look at it, these are rather significant changes, with certain tiers’ values increasing to match the one that was previously above them. a total reclassification of costs and offerings. Or, to put it another way, this amounts to a 33% rise in the US and a 20% increase in the UK and Europe.

All other subscribers, whether they are adding new subscriptions, upgrading, or downgrading, will be impacted on and from September 6. If you already have a 12-month membership, you are secure until November 6, 2023.

According to Sony, the 12-month alternatives will continue to be more cost-effective than, say, stacking smaller subscriptions. Even so, Adam Michel, Director, Content Acquisition & Changes at SIE, stated in the blog post that “This price adjustment will enable us to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service.” There was still no word on any additional benefits of changes to the tiers.
