Gamers seeking for a change of pace after years of making dinners and moving homes in co-op party games should keep an eye on Speed Crew, which provides a cartoonish take on the time-sensitive responsibilities of working in a racing pit crew. Speed Crew, developed by Wild Fields in Ukraine, seems to be an intriguing take on the co-op simulation genre popularised by games such as the chaotic kitchen sim series Overcooked.
Although many individuals consciously avoid stressful circumstances in real life, such as working in a crowded kitchen or emptying an overcrowded moving truck, these normally onerous duties have become great fodder for the popular co-op simulation genre of games. These oddball party games provide a perfect reason to gather friends and family for some frantic couch co-op in an age when multiplayer games are increasingly being played online. And, while the goal is to complete in-game tasks quickly and efficiently, whether that’s accurately assembling orders in Overcooked games or fumbling with furniture in titles like SMG and Team17’s Moving Out 2, a large part of the genre’s appeal is laughing at the chaos that ensues when players get out of sync.
Wild Fields has published an announcement video for their new co-op party game, Speed Crew, which puts its own take on the genre. Speed Crew, which unashamedly wears the inspiration of games like Overcooked on its sleeves, will let up to four players to join up in either local or online co-op as they scurry about the pit working feverishly to get racers back on the road. Instead of the meticulously coordinated perfection shown when players drive into the pit in a NASCAR video game, the Speed Crew film revels in the comedic chaos of attempting to accomplish vehicle changes while coping with impediments thrown their way.
