Multiversus intends to release Black Adam as well as a new game mode

Fans of the newest cartoon brawler Multiversus may expect Black Adam to arrive later this week, along with a new game option, according to a recent tweet. Black Adam first appeared in advertising materials for season one alongside the wicked Stripe from the Gremlins franchise. Stripe made his in-game debut earlier this month, leaving some fans asking where Black Adam is.

If all goes as planned, the wait will be over shortly; as Multiversus typically releases new characters on Tuesdays and Thursdays, we should expect Black Adam to be in-game by Friday at the very latest. The delay for Black Adam could be due to the debut of a new film starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on October 21. Warner Bros. and DC may be attempting to maintain a zeitgeist of enthusiasm around the character with both the film and the game.

So, who exactly is Black Adam? Shazam’s archenemy at times is Black Adam (also known as Captain Marvel). While Shazam derives his powers from Greek and Roman gods and historical characters, Black Adam derives his powers from the Egyptian religious pantheon. Both continue to use the acronym “Shazam,” with Black Adam’s powers being:

  • S for the stamina of Shu, a goddess similar to Atlas and is responsible for holding up the sky.
  • H for the speed of Horus, a god who moved the sun and moon as he flew across the sky.
  • A for the strength of Amon, the chief deity of the Egyptian Empire.
  • Z for the wisdom of Zehuti (also known as Thoth), the god of magic, wisdom, writing, and more.
  • A for the power of Aten, a god that rivals Ra over dominion of the sun.
  • M for the courage of Mehen, an enigmatic snake god.

Since Black Adam originally appeared in comic books in the 1940s, the character has grown from stereotypical villain to a more nuanced position. In comic books, antiheroes have become popular.

In addition to Black Adam, players may expect a new “Arcade Mode” in the same release. In fighting games, Arcade Mode is frequently a player vs. AI gauntlet that portrays a character’s individual story through cuts of dialogue. It’s uncertain what to expect from Multiversus’ Arcade Mode, but with such an all-star cast, it’d be a pity not to bring their stories to a wider audience of gamers.
