Mimimi Games, Creator of Desperados and Shadow Tactics, Announces Closure

Mimimi Games, the small developer behind Desperados and Shadow Tactics, has announced its closure. Its most recent game, Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, will continue to be maintained, but it will be the studio’s final game.

Dominik Abé, one of the co-founders, wrote an official blog entry titled ‘Mimimi’s Final Game.’

and Johannes Roth commented, “After the release of Shadow Gambit, we decided it was the right time to prioritise our well-being and pull the brakes instead of signing up for another multi-year production cycle.”

While that appears to be the end of new games or projects, the co-founders are dedicated to maintaining the studio’s most recent game with “a patch across all platforms and have a big content drop planned for later this year” for Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew.

Mimimi Games, located in Munich, began with daWindci, an iOS game, before expanding to PC and console with titles such as The Last Tinker: City of Colours and Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun.

In terms of what comes next, Mimimi Games would begin “slowly ramping down the studio over the next few months” and has informed its workforce of this before to going public with the announcement. The studio will assist the dev team in their efforts to locate new roles at other studios. In addition, thanks to the popularity of Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, the company was able to provide a cash incentive to the crew.

Abé and Roth, co-founders, concluded by thanking fans of the games they created, but also noting that “while we don’t know what the future holds for the both of us, we still love video games.” So, while Mimimi Games may have come to an end for the time being, Abé and Roth’s involvement in video game production may not be over.
