Microsoft is set to retire its Paint 3D app, with plans to delist it from the Microsoft Store across all Windows devices in November 2024. Launched in 2017 as part of the Windows 10 Creators Update, Paint 3D aimed to modernize the classic Paint app by introducing features for 3D art creation. Despite its innovative design, the app struggled to gain widespread adoption among mainstream users.
In recent years, Microsoft shifted its focus back to enhancing the original Paint app, adding features like layer support, while gradually phasing out Paint 3D. The app had already been excluded from fresh Windows installations, leaving it available only as an optional download from the Microsoft Store.
Famed leaker phantomofearth recently shared a screenshot revealing a banner in the Paint 3D app, notifying users that it will no longer receive updates and will be removed from the Microsoft Store on November 4. Although this banner hasn’t yet appeared for all users, it’s expected to roll out gradually in the coming days.
Users who already have Paint 3D installed on their devices may continue to use the app after November 4, but it will no longer be supported by Microsoft. For those who rely on 3D modeling, this is an opportune time to transition to more advanced software like Autodesk 3ds Max or Blender, which offer superior features and capabilities.
