Microsoft has quietly introduced a useful new feature to an early version of Windows 11 that could simplify the process of fixing PC issues.
Reinstalling Windows has often been a last-resort solution for troubleshooting, but it can be time-consuming and requires backing up important files. However, in Windows 11 build 25905, available to Windows Insider program participants, a new feature has appeared in the Recovery settings.
This feature allows users to fix PC problems by utilizing Windows Update. Selecting this option will initiate a “fresh” installation of the latest available update while retaining apps, files, and settings.
If this feature functions as intended, it could significantly streamline the process of resolving Windows 11 issues. In the past, performing a clean install involved wiping the hard drive and starting from scratch, often requiring installation media and activation codes. Even with later Windows versions introducing options like the Windows reset feature, reinstalling applications remained a lengthy process.
With this new feature, the process is expected to be more streamlined, ensuring apps and documents remain intact. It offers a fast and painless way to address common PC problems.
However, there are a few limitations to consider. The feature appears to require booting into Windows 11, which may not be possible if the PC fails to boot. It is unclear if the feature is accessible in safe mode. Additionally, if a problem stems from the latest Windows 11 update, reinstalling that specific update may not resolve the issue.
Despite these limitations, Microsoft’s introduction of new troubleshooting methods is always welcomed. While the company has kept this feature relatively low-key, it has the potential to become one of the most valuable additions in recent years. Hopefully, it will be available to all Windows 11 users in the near future.
