Metal Gear Solid Classics Come to Consoles and PC in New Master Collection

Konami has finally revealed the highly anticipated release date for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1. The compilation, which was initially announced during Sony’s PlayStation Showcase, will be available on October 24th, as confirmed during the recent Nintendo Direct livestream.

The Master Collection Vol. 1 includes the previously announced titles Metal Gear Solid, MGS 2: Sons of Liberty, and MGS 3: Snake Eater. However, Konami has expanded the collection to include additional games such as Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, as well as the NES versions of Metal Gear and Snake’s Revenge. Alongside these classic games, the bundle offers an array of bonus content, including strategy guides for each title, a digital soundtrack, and the Metal Gear Solid graphic novel and screenplay books, which delve into the intricate stories of Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater.

With its comprehensive lineup, the Master Collection aims to provide players with the ultimate experience of the Metal Gear series on modern platforms. Notably, several games in the series, including Sons of Liberty, have faced licensing issues, making them unavailable for purchase on platforms like GOG and the Microsoft Store. This compilation serves as a valuable opportunity for fans to access these beloved titles.

However, the decision to purchase the Master Collection may be influenced by individual opinions regarding Konami’s treatment of Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima. Since the public split between Kojima and the company in 2015, Konami has made efforts to minimize Kojima’s involvement in the series, which has sparked controversy among fans.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will be accessible on various platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, and Nintendo Switch. As the release date approaches, fans of the Metal Gear franchise eagerly anticipate revisiting these iconic games and immersing themselves in the captivating world created by Hideo Kojima.
