Mercedes and Aston Martin back in contention as Ferrari reveal key breakthrough

Carlos Sainz, driver for the Ferrari Formula 1 team, is confident that the team is back to being competitive with Aston Martin and Mercedes following a strong race performance. Ferrari’s strategic decision to start both drivers on the medium tires, instead of opting for a cheap pit stop under the safety car, proved to be a wise move as they prioritized track position.

Both Sainz and his teammate, Charles Leclerc, were able to manage their tire wear effectively, allowing them to maintain strong positions throughout the race and ultimately finish in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Reflecting on the race, Sainz expressed some regret about their starting positions due to penalties and believed that they could have challenged the Aston Martin and Mercedes cars if they had started further up the grid. Despite this, he highlighted the team’s overall performance, stating, “I think we had a strong race weekend.”

Leclerc, who started in 10th place due to a qualifying error involving the wrong tires, found comfort in the fact that his performance during the race aligned with his data from Friday’s practice sessions. He expressed satisfaction with the team’s competitiveness on both the medium and hard tire compounds, emphasizing the positive feeling he had throughout the race.

However, Leclerc acknowledged that Ferrari’s next step should focus on improving pure performance. He revealed that a setup change made him feel more comfortable with the SF-23, hinting at further developments and adjustments to enhance the car’s overall speed and handling.

The strong showing in the Canadian Grand Prix indicates positive progress for the Scuderia after recent years of struggle. Ferrari’s ability to make effective strategic decisions and extract competitive performance from the car bodes well for their future prospects in the highly competitive Formula 1 field.

As the season continues, fans eagerly anticipate the team’s continued progress and their ability to consistently challenge the front-runners. With drivers like Sainz and Leclerc behind the wheel, Ferrari appears to be regaining its competitive edge and positioning itself for a successful campaign.
