In a boon for fans of action RPG “Lords of the Fallen,” the game is set to receive a series of patches this week aimed at enhancing its New Game Plus mode. The New Game Plus mode, unlocked after the initial completion of the game, is poised to become more versatile and engaging with these updates.
As outlined in the patch notes, the first significant change introduces an option for players to embark on a new playthrough with their existing characters without the increased difficulty associated with New Game Plus. This adjustment makes it more accessible for players looking to complete achievements and explore the game’s content without the heightened challenge.
A second update, scheduled for release on October 26th, focuses on improving how New Game Plus affects Vestiges, which serve as the game’s checkpoint system. Currently, most Vestiges are removed when transitioning to New Game Plus, leading to a significant spike in difficulty. However, the upcoming update will implement a gradual reduction of Vestiges across each playthrough, providing a smoother and more balanced difficulty curve for long-term players.
Furthermore, a future update for New Game Plus introduces a modifier system that empowers players to manually adjust the frequency of Vestiges. This feature not only adds customization but also includes elements typically introduced by modders, such as optional permadeath, enemy and item randomizers, and more. While this feature requires additional development time, it is expected to arrive “before the end of the year.”
The latest patch doesn’t stop there. It also brings improvements to the enemy ‘leashing’ system, significantly reducing the distance at which enemies will pursue players throughout a level. Additionally, the density of enemies will undergo changes, with busier areas being thinned out during the initial playthrough and restored during subsequent New Game Plus runs. This dynamic adjustment mirrors the approach seen in titles like Dark Souls 2, which introduced extra enemy placements in post-game content.
These updates promise to breathe new life into “Lords of the Fallen,” making the New Game Plus experience more enjoyable and customizable for dedicated players, while also offering enhanced accessibility for those seeking to conquer the game’s challenges at their own pace.
