It looks like it will be a hot summer but for the gambling industry, it’s a worrying one. The UK government has had plenty of problems of late and it’s delaying important legislation. That includes the long-awaited White Paper on how the 2005 Gambling Act will be reformed.
The UK gambling industry has been waiting a while to find out what the White Paper contains. We got close to finding out when the White Paper was sent to Number 10 Downing Street for a final review.
However, the resignation of Boris Johnson as Prime Minister has again slowed the process down. We have to wait until September 5 to find out who the new Prime Minister will be. Then the new person in charge will need to settle in before looking at major pieces of legislation such as gambling reform. Their views might be different from those in the current White Paper.
