American Formula One driver Logan Sargeant of Williams expressed his disappointment after his promising performance at the Dutch Grand Prix was marred by a crash during Q3 in qualifying.
Williams’ cars demonstrated unexpected competitiveness at Zandvoort, with team leader Alex Albon consistently performing well in practice and securing a strong fourth place on the starting grid for the race.
Sargeant, hailing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, also showcased his most competitive performance to date, making it to the final stage of qualifying for the first time in his Formula One career.
However, Sargeant’s impressive progress came to a halt when he crashed heavily at Turn 2 during the opening minutes of the pole position shootout. The incident occurred just after he had secured the second-fastest time on the timesheets.
Due to the extent of the damage to his car, Sargeant was unable to continue the session. As other drivers made improvements on the rapidly drying track, Sargeant’s position in the final Q3 classification dropped to 10th.
Despite reaching Q3 and showcasing strong performance throughout the weekend, Sargeant expressed regret about the way his session ended. He emphasized that a small mistake can have significant consequences in Formula One, especially on a challenging track like Zandvoort where there is minimal room for error.
Sargeant acknowledged that the conditions were tricky, with the track drying and the tires wearing out. He mentioned that the mistake overshadowed an otherwise positive weekend, where he had shown good pace in dry conditions during practice and had promising long-run performance.
He concluded by expressing his disappointment about leaving the team with a damaged car and emphasized his commitment to learning from the experience and focusing on the upcoming race, where he aims to capitalize on the team’s strong long-run pace.
