Williams Racing have officially announced the signing of 17 year old racing sensation Lia Block to their F1 Academy lineup. The daughter of the legendary Ken Block has been racing since she was 11, starting with Go-Karts and gradually making her mark in RallyCross, and the iconic Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Earlier this year, Lia claimed victory in the highly competitive American Rally Association’s open two-wheel drive class, proving to everyone that she is no pushover and she is here to stay amd make a name for herself. This victory came almost an year after her father passed in a tragic snowmobile accident. However, she has not allowed the tragedy to weaken her. Instead she believes that by doing her best in this industry, she will make her father and her family proud.
When she is not racing, Lia can be seeing taking some of her father’s cars for a spin, displaying a similar flair and courage as her father. The skill is definitely there, and Williams think that she is the perfect fit to complete their F1 Academy lineup. “This is something I never could have dreamed of. I can’t wait to embrace this new experience and learn as much as possible.”Lia said.
Partnering Lia will be the incredibly talented 18 yeard old Bianca Bustamante, and we are absolutely buzzing to see the two taking to the track. It seems that Williams Racing have hit the jackpot. F1 Academy will be taking the racing to Saudi Arabia, Miami, Barcelona, Zandvoort, Singapore, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi.
