Lenovo and Motorola Showcase “Adaptive Display Concept” Smartphone That Bends and Wraps Around Wrist

Tech World 2023 Reveals a Unique Smartphone Prototype and Upcoming Generative AI Features.

At Lenovo’s ninth Tech World event in Austin, Texas, an intriguing glimpse of the future of smartphones was presented as Lenovo and its subsidiary, Motorola, showcased the “Adaptive Display Concept” smartphone. This remarkable device boasts a Full HD Plus resolution pOLED screen with a resolution of 2,228 x 1,080 pixels, capable of bending and shaping into various forms to suit the user’s needs. The most astonishing aspect is that this prototype is a single-screen Android phone, eliminating the need for external hinges. By folding the 6.9-inch screen in half, it transforms into a more compact 4.6-inch display that can be utilized in various configurations, such as standing upright on the bent portion, forming an elegant arc, or even wrapping around the wrist like a watch band.

While the hardware details are limited at this stage, the Adaptive Display Concept made a prominent appearance at Tech World 2023. The presenter demonstrated its flexibility by placing it over her arm, leaving the audience captivated. However, Lenovo and Motorola have chosen to remain tight-lipped about further specifications and availability.

In addition to the prototype, Lenovo and Motorola also unveiled some exciting generative AI models they are currently developing. These AI models are designed to allow users to personalize their devices in unique ways. One of these models enables users to upload or capture an image of their outfit, which is then used to generate AI-created wallpapers that match their clothing. With the Adaptive Display Concept, users can create their own backgrounds by propping the device up on a table and capturing images using hand gestures.

Furthermore, Lenovo and Motorola are collaborating on a “personal assistant” for PCs and smartphones, referred to as MotoAI. This innovative assistant is expected to learn users’ patterns and preferences, delivering a dynamic and tailored experience. Additionally, Motorola’s Doc Scanner is receiving an upgrade to minimize wrinkles in scanned documents, ensuring that documents appear crisp and professional. Lastly, an AI Text Summarization feature is in development, allowing users to condense long-form documents or emails into concise, easily digestible summaries, similar to Chrome’s SGE while browsing tool.
