Lando Norris Faces Consequences from McLaren After Near-Collision with Oscar Piastri

Lando Norris has been officially held accountable by McLaren for his near-miss with teammate and championship rival Oscar Piastri at the Singapore Grand Prix. Although the specific nature of the consequences has not been disclosed, Norris confirmed ahead of the U.S. Grand Prix that the team has imposed repercussions for his actions in the incident.

The incident occurred at the start of the Singapore race when Norris, taking evasive action to avoid Max Verstappen, nearly put Piastri into the wall. The two McLaren drivers made contact but continued racing, with Norris finishing ahead of Piastri. At the time, Piastri expressed frustration, hinting on the radio that Norris should have been ordered to give the position back, a call the team did not enforce during the race.

However, McLaren appears to have changed its stance since then. Norris told reporters, “The team held me accountable for what happened, which I think is fair. We made progress from there on understanding what the repercussions were for myself, to avoid anything worse happening than what did.” He added that “things were reviewed and there are and will be repercussions for me until the end of the season,” though no further specifics were provided.

Piastri also acknowledged that, “Lando’s taken responsibility for that, and so has the team,” adding, “it’s quite clear for us as a team that how Lap 1 unfolded wasn’t how we want to go racing.”

McLaren team leadership, including Zak Brown and Andrea Stella, have made it clear they want to avoid any intra-team contact, emphasizing that such incidents—no matter how minor—have consequences to maintain unity and avoid further escalation.

Both drivers and the team have opted not to publicly specify the penalties or actions taken, keeping those details internal for now.
