Design and privacy
The device mounts over most toilet rims without tools, requiring a width between 32 and 58 millimeters and at least 6 millimeters of clearance under the lid. The camera points downward into the toilet bowl, ensuring it only captures waste and not users or surroundings. Kohler emphasizes “discreet optics” that respect privacy, distancing the product from any surveillance concerns.
Dekoda supports multi-user households with fingerprint authentication, allowing each person to manage their own data. Health data is encrypted end-to-end, and the companion app lets users control exactly how much information is shared. The system runs on a rechargeable battery lasting about a week, with USB-C charging for updates and power.
AI-driven health monitoring
After each use, Dekoda’s sensors capture images of waste samples and process them with AI algorithms. The app provides hydration levels, gut health trends, and alerts if blood traces or other irregularities are detected. While not a replacement for medical testing, the device is designed to flag potential concerns early, prompting users to consult a healthcare professional if needed.
Users can track daily summaries and trends over time through the Kohler Health app, gaining insight into patterns that may otherwise go unnoticed. However, Kohler warns that darker-colored toilet bowls may interfere with sensor accuracy, as the system relies on light reflection.
Dekoda represents Kohler Health’s first foray into combining bathroom fixtures with digital wellness, aiming to integrate health monitoring into everyday routines in a private, non-invasive way.
