Mortal Kombat 1, one of the most anticipated games of the year, is generating even more excitement with the official announcement that J.K. Simmons will be returning as Omni-Man in the upcoming Kombat Pack 1 DLC. The confirmation came from Ed Boon, the co-creator of Mortal Kombat, during a live interview panel at SDCC Day 3.
In his role as the villainous world conqueror from the acclaimed Prime Video animated series “Invincible,” J.K. Simmons is set to bring authenticity to the character within the game. This marks another instance of a celebrity actor lending their voice and likeness to a famous character in the long-running Mortal Kombat series. Previous games in the franchise featured the likes of Sylvester Stallone as Rambo and Peter Weller as Robocop in post-launch DLC packages for Mortal Kombat 11.
Omni-Man’s inclusion is not the only exciting news for Mortal Kombat 1 fans. The recently revealed Kombat Pack 1 also boasts other super-powered guest characters, including Homelander from “The Boys” portrayed by Anthony Starr and John Cena’s Peacemaker from James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” and its self-titled Max spin-off show.
The DLC lineup also features the return of series veterans Ermac and Quan Chi, known for their appearances in previous NetherRealm titles. Additionally, Takeda, a newcomer introduced in Mortal Kombat X, is making a comeback with a look reminiscent of his Shirai Ryu variation.
As one of the high-profile releases in the first wave of DLC fighters, Mortal Kombat 1 continues the NetherRealm tradition of themed launches. Mortal Kombat 11 featured 80s action heroes, while Mortal Kombat X delved into horror with characters like Leatherface, Alien, Jason, and The Predator. The upcoming DLC suggests a focus on brutal vigilante justice in line with Fire God Liu Kang’s theme.
Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled for release on September 19 for Xbox Series X, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. With its impressive lineup of characters and exciting gameplay, it is poised to offer fierce competition in an already excellent year for fighting games, alongside titles like Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8.
Fans of Mortal Kombat can prepare to take their skills to the next level with the best fight sticks, Xbox controllers, PS5 controllers, or Nintendo Switch controllers available to enhance their gaming experience.
