In the near future, Sonic Origins appears to be getting a new release. This is because the South Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC), which is comparable to the ESRB, recently published a rating. Ratings from organisations like this typically apply to soon-to-be-released games, which causes the names of those titles to become public earlier than intended. This is seen with the potential Sonic Origins Plus collection. Sega hasn’t formally revealed the game yet.
Last summer saw the release of Sonic Origins, a collection of four vintage Sonic the Hedgehog games. A few new elements were introduced, and animated sequences were used to try to weave them all together into a cohesive story. Even Headcannon, the group behind the much-praised Sonic Mania, was engaged in its creation. However, the game’s current state has been very mixed; Sonic Origins even angered a Headcannon developer. Despite this, based on this rating, it appears that Sega is preparing a new edition of the game.
Sonic Origins Plus is unknown outside of the possibility of a recent release. The “Plus” in the title denotes that this release is an improved version of the main game with extra material, similar to the Sonic Mania Plus re-release. For individuals who previously acquired the base Sonic Mania game, this content was made available as DLC. There is a chance that Sonic Origins will follow suit and receive a physical release since the “Plus” edition also led to the game’s physical distribution on consoles despite initially being digital-only.
Given that Mighty and Ray were introduced to the roster in Sonic Mania Plus, new playable characters for Sonic Origins Plus may be included. Amy Rose and Metal Sonic seem like viable options, given Amy’s odd exclusion from Origins’ playable cast and Metal Sonic’s status as a fan favourite. All of this is only conjecture, although additional games might be added to this updated edition, such as Sonic Spinball or Knuckles Chaotix.
It’s important to note that some fans have claimed that Sonic Origins still has a lot of problems in its current condition. This covers Sonic 3 & Knuckles’ dreadful replacement music, the new physics, the microtransactions, and other issues that fans have complained about. In this potential re-release, fans hope that Sega and Sonic Team would address these issues.
