How to use Meta AI on Whatsapp

All the major tech giants these days, are quickly jumping on the AI hype train. The trend that was started by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, seems to have started an AI arms race, with companies focussing their resources around developing their own AI model. Meta, the company that runs Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp, has been tinkering with their proprietary ‘Llama’ AI model for a good few months now, and it looks like they are finally at a point where they think it is now feasible to release it to the general users. Why do we say this?

Well, in the recent Whatsapp update, Meta has quietly added in a Meta AI button, which gives you access to Meta AI (powered by Llama 3). It works like your usual chatbot, where in you can ask it questions, have conversations with it, and also generate and animate images (with content limitations ofcourse).

Let’s take a look at how you can use Meta AI on Whatsapp, and the different things you can do with it.

Step 1. Make sure you update Whatsapp to the latest version. If you are running an older version, the feature will not appear.

Open the Whatsapp application

Step 2. Once the app is updated, you will see a circular logo at the top right hand side of the home page.

Step 3. Tap on the circular logo, and you will be taken to a familiar default Whatsapp chat window, but the difference is, this time, you will be chatting with Meta AI.

Now, you can enter a simple hi message, or start with a full fledged prompt, and the Meta AI chatbot, will present you with an answer. You can ask it for a poem for your friend, or a recipe for your favourite dish. In mere seconds, the AI chatbot will present you with answer.

As far as image generation is concerned, you can ask the Meta AI to generate images of your imagination, but keep in mind, if you are foolish enough to try and ask the AI to generate something sensitive, your request will be rejected.

Since Llama 3 is just now released to the public, it will be some time before we can ascertain if it can stand up to the likes of ChatGPT or Claude, but the fact that Meta has entered the fray, seems to indicate that very soon, we will have a slew of AI models from various companies, and the free to use scheme will help them get data from the general public, and help make their models better – You use our chatbot for free, and we get your data for free, our Ai models improve and so does your experience. Vicious cycle isn’t it?
