Once you start using Instagram, you start to accumulate followers over time and these followers can be your friends, colleagues, brands, or completely unknown people who may be following you for the content that you post. However, we all have our personal lives, and sometimes, there may be stories that you post, but you want only a few of your close friends to see them and interact with them. To cater to this exact requirement, Instagram introduced the ‘close friends’ feature. Using this, you can make a list of users that you want to be part of your close friend’s circle, and whenever you post a story under the ‘close friends’ tag, only these select few users will be able to see it on the platform.
Making this close friends list is super simple and you can add or remove users from this list, as many times as you want. For now, though, let’s take a look at how to set up the close friends list on Instagram.
Step 1. Open the Instagram app on your smartphone. (Android or iOS).
Step 2. Tap on the profile thumbnail at the bottom right-hand side of the home page to open up your profile.
Step 3. On the profile page, tap on the ‘three’ lines icon at the top right-hand side.
Step 4. From the pop-up menu, tap on the ‘Close Friends’ option.
Step 5. You will now see a list of users who are on your followers’ list and you can start adding the ones you want to be classified as your close friends.
Step 6. Once you are happy with the selection, tap on the ‘Done’ button.
Now, if you visit the profile of a user who is part of your close friends’ list, you will see that the ‘Following’ button is displayed in green compared to the usual blue color. This is just for indicative purposes and holds no other meaning.
Now, if you are unable to see this close friends feature, chances are that you are using an outdated version of Instagram. Try updating the app to the latest build, and if the feature still doesn’t show up, try reinstalling the app.
