Google is set to announce its latest smart home gear, and leaks around the next Nest Doorbell suggest big improvements are coming soon. Dubbed the Google Nest Doorbell 2K, the new device sports upgraded video quality—up to 2K (2048 x 2048) HDR—taking a big leap from the current model’s 960 x 1280. It also features a wider 166-degree diagonal field of view, up from 145 degrees, delivering clearer and wider coverage for your entryway.
Aside from standard features like two-way audio, night vision, and weather resistance, the highlight this time is full integration with Google Gemini. Gemini brings advanced AI-powered functions to the new doorbell and other upcoming Nest smart home devices, but there’s a catch—these AI features will require a separate subscription.
The launch coincides with leaked images showing up on Reddit, revealing both the device’s packaging and core specs. Google has also teased an October 1 hardware event where the new Nest Doorbell, next-gen Nest Cams, and a long-awaited Nest smart speaker are likely to be announced.
If you’re eyeing the new doorbell, keep in mind that while basic features remain free, the flagship AI enhancements will need a subscription. Stay tuned for Google’s official event for all details.
