Google Calendar may stop working on older Android smartphones

If you happen to be using an older Android smartphone, and you extensively use Google Calendar to keep track of your schedule and favourite events, there is some bad news for you. Some tipsters have noted that the new update for Google Calendar has a built in pop up which says ‘Your current Android version is no longer supported.’

This pop-up message usually appears when you are trying to download an app that is no longer compatible with your device. The oldest Android version that is being supported these days is Android 8, and it looks like Google Calendar app will also stop supporting devices that are running an Android version older than version 8.

For now though, Google has not released this update and Google Calendar is working fine on older devices. However, when the switch is hit, you will start seeing that message and the app will stop functioning. However, you may still be able to use Google Calendars using the web browser.

Android 8 was launched back in 2017 and it is heartening to see that Google is still supporting the operating system, but we believe that this will not be the case for long, as technology is evolving and the older versions of the beloved Android operating system do not have the capability to handle or run these features.
