Flag

Meaning – The term flag, in the context of computing, is defined as a signal for a function or process within a code. The value of the flag is used to determine the next step of a program. Flags are often binary flags, which contain a boolean value, that is, true or false.

A flag is known to stay flat when the conditions are false but gets instantly triggered when the specified condition is true.

The term flag is also used to refer to the process of marking a process or a situation in daily life, that appears to be suspicious or malicious. Within an organization, the employees are expected to flag any activity that they think is against the best interests of the company. Once an activity is flagged, the management decides the future course of action for the same.

Example of usage“When he saw that an employee was secretly relaying confidential information to the competitors, he quickly flagged the employee in question and prevented further leaks.”
