Meaning – The word disable, refers to the process of making something non functional. In a computer, there are several processes running simultaneously, and while some of them are mission critical, others may not be so useful. In order to save the processing power for the critical tasks, users can disable unnecessary processes to ease up the CPU.
When a computer is being shared across the family, and kids are involved, the elders can disable access to certain applications and even websites, to avoid misdirecting them or causing a wrong influence.
The process of disabling something can be temporary, or permanent, depending on the intent of the user.
Example of usage – “Since her computer was being used by her younger siblings also, she disabled access to her applications, on their user profiles. This way, she avoided any changes or accidental deletion of files.”
