The long-awaited Genshin Impact 4.0 update has been officially unveiled, featuring the introduction of the Fontaine nation, a confirmed release date of August 16, and an array of exciting content. During a one-hour Genshin Impact 4.0 Special Program event streamed on YouTube and Twitch, developer HoYoverse provided an extensive preview of what players can expect in this upcoming update.
Genshin Impact originally launched in September 2020, introducing players to the vast regions of Mondstadt and Liyue, inspired by Germany and China, respectively. Since then, HoYoverse has followed an annual tradition of adding a new region to the game each summer. In 4.0, players will venture into the Fontaine nation, known as the “Nation of Justice,” on August 16. This hydro-attuned region is poised to offer new adventures, stories, and challenges.
The 4.0 update also brings three new playable characters to the game, all of whom are sisters: Lyney, Lynette, and Fremont. Lyney, the eldest sister, is a five-star Pyro archer with the ability to harness fireworks as weapons and transform into a Grin-Malkin Cat during combat. Lynette, the middle sibling, wields an Anemo sword and boasts incredible speed. She will be recruitable during an upcoming seasonal event for players who reach Adventure Rank 25. Finally, Freminet, another four-star character, is proficient in using claymores and specializes in Cryo attacks.
Genshin Impact 4.0 also introduces two new formidable bosses: Icewind Suite and Emperor of Fire and Iron. Icewind Suite is a clockwork-inspired robot that gracefully evades players’ attacks, providing a unique and challenging encounter. The Emperor of Fire and Iron takes the form of a massive crab-like creature, wielding powerful Pyro abilities capable of setting the surroundings ablaze.
Notably, this update not only brings the French-inspired Fontaine nation surrounded by water but also marks Genshin Impact’s first-ever underwater adventure. Additionally, players on PlayStation consoles can expect improved loading times and graphics enhancements. The update aims to deliver various quality-of-life improvements across all platforms.
While Fontaine will technically be accessible to players who complete early-game Mondstadt quests, HoYoverse recommends that players also fulfill specific story requirements to fully immerse themselves in the Fontaine experience. The 4.0 update promises to offer Genshin Impact enthusiasts a wealth of new content, thrilling challenges, and a vibrant new region to explore.
