The Garmin Venu 3 smartwatch may soon introduce skin temperature tracking in a future update, enhancing its capabilities as a combined smartwatch and fitness tracker.
Gadgets & Wearables discovered that the latest Q4 beta for the Garmin Venu 3 included a skin temperature feature. Garmin quickly clarified that this addition was “inadvertently included in the change log and is not yet available to the public beta.” Nonetheless, this suggests that a future update will bring skin temperature tracking to the Venu 3.
The Garmin Venu 3 already possesses the necessary sensors for monitoring skin temperature, but this feature was not initially enabled when the smartwatch was launched. In contrast, some competitors like the Apple Watch Series 9 come equipped with the ability to track the wearer’s skin temperature, particularly during sleep.
While skin temperature tracking may not be available in the public beta, this development indicates that it could be part of upcoming updates. This possibility was also hinted at in a leaked screenshot of the smartwatch earlier this year. If skin temperature tracking is indeed added to the Venu 3, it would further enhance one of the best smartwatches available.
For those unfamiliar with the concept, skin temperature monitoring provides valuable insights into your body’s condition. For instance, an increase in skin temperature can signal the early stages of an infection, or post-exercise, it can reflect the physical strain endured during an intense workout. For women, it can aid in tracking menstrual cycles, offering more accurate predictions of ovulation compared to traditional calendar apps.
In addition to the potential skin temperature tracking, update 8.32 offers other valuable upgrades. These include the Red Shift Control, which filters out colors to improve nighttime visibility without compromising night vision. The update also introduces new activities for racket sports, team sports, and more. Notably, the Running Dynamic feature will now function directly on the watch, eliminating the need to rely on a connected smartphone.
If you own a Garmin Venu 3 and are interested in the 8.32 beta update, you can access it by navigating to the watch’s main menu, proceeding to settings, selecting system, and tapping on ‘software update’ to search for and install the update. This update is poised to bring enhanced health monitoring capabilities to an already feature-rich smartwatch.
