Development teams might spend more time on higher-order activities like narrative and creativity if repetitive and tiresome chores were automated by AI. The hype around generative AI, which some people perceive as a method to automate artists’ employment and regard as progress, is one of the key issues. This narrative, however, fails to acknowledge the reality that making a video game needs a significant amount of effort and creativity and that automating some jobs may not always result in better games.

The hype has also been challenged, with Julian Togelius, co-director of the NYU Gaming Innovation Lab, calling it “crazy” and “the worst sort of crypto bros.” Julian Togelius has written extensively about generative AI in the game business. He contends that although generative AI may be helpful in the creation of video games, game designers should be cautious when using it and realistic about what it can do.
Finally, although the potential for generative AI in the gaming sector is intriguing, it’s critical for developers and business executives to approach the subject from a practical angle. Before the technology can be extensively accepted in the industry, it is still in its early phases and faces several obstacles. However, it’s feasible that generative AI may ultimately prove to be a useful tool for game creators to produce more engaging and distinctive gaming experiences with continuous study and development.
