Strava, the popular fitness tracking app, has announced a partnership with Spotify to provide seamless integration of music controls within its platform. Previously, users had to switch to the Spotify app to control their music, causing some inconvenience. With this new feature, a small widget for Spotify will appear in the bottom left of the recording screen, allowing users to pause or switch their music without leaving the app.
Strava has over 100 million users worldwide, and with Spotify’s 500 million listeners and intense competition from other fitness tracker companies, the integration is a clear indication of Strava’s commitment to retaining and expanding its user base. Mateo Ortega, Strava’s Vice President of Connected Partnerships, stated that “This new feature further solidifies Strava’s position at the center of connected fitness and continues to demonstrate the power of the global community of active people on Strava.”
In addition to the music integration, Strava has taken over the creation of Spotify’s “Workout” playlist as of April 20th. It remains to be seen what kind of “Strava-curated sounds” will be featured on the playlist.
