OpenAI has announced the launch of a new Bug Bounty Program, inviting researchers and the general public to identify any security vulnerabilities, flaws, or other issues within the ChatGPT AI system. The program rewards participants with cash prizes, ranging from $200 for low-severity findings to up to $20,000 for exceptional discoveries. The submissions and payouts are handled by Bugcrowd, a reputable bug bounty platform.
Tech giants like Google and Apple have previously implemented similar programs, with Google paying out a total of $6.5 million to those who reported issues in 2019, including a reward of $201,337 for one individual. Apple offered a bounty of up to $2 million for anyone who could identify “issues that bypass the specific protections of Lockdown Mode.”
ChatGPT has experienced issues with bugs in the past. In a recent incident, the entire system went offline after users reported seeing names of conversations they weren’t a part of. Additionally, a Twitter user claimed to have found over 80 secret plugins while hacking ChatGPT a few days later.
