Evernote is reportedly working on revamping its free tier. But there is a twist. If you look at other platforms online, you will see that they are trying to lure users to use their services by offering some enticing features in their free tiers. However, Evernote is thinking differently. Reports indicate that Evernote is releasing a free tier that is devoid of almost every feature. But why are they doing this? Well apparently, Evernote want to get users to subscribe to a paid plan, or leave the platform altogether.
According to some free users, they have started seeing a pop up notification that states that the free plan will be limited to a single notebook and 50 notes, after which the app will not function unless they delete their notes. Also, they have seemingly offered 40% discount on a paid plan, which they can avail and continue using all the features of the application.
There is another catch. If you were to go on Evernote’s website, you will see that this is still not concrete, and when we asked Evernote about it, they said that they are currently testing this limited free plan with 1% of their users, maybe to gauge the response. Only when they are convinced that the limited features are leading to paid subscribers, they will make it official on their website.
Note that the limited free plan will not restrict users from editing their notes, but will not allow them to create new ones unless they subscribe to a paid tier.
Evernote was a go to productivity app for years, but since 2020, the brand has been on a downward slope, and it looks like this is a last ditch effort for the company to get back to their earlier position.
