EVE Online, the popular multiplayer online game known for its intricate gameplay and data-driven mechanics, has taken a significant step forward by releasing a Microsoft Excel add-in. Developed by CCP Games, the creators of EVE Online, the add-in aims to provide players with a competitive advantage by leveraging the power of data analysis and visualization.
In a blog post on Tuesday, CCP Games emphasized the importance of data in EVE Online, stating that “access to and the understanding of data can spell the difference between victory and defeat.” The add-in, which was initially announced at EVE Fanfest last year, is now available for free, presenting an opportunity to level the playing field and enhance the gaming experience for both new and existing players.
The collaboration between CCP Games and Microsoft serves as a crossover marketing endeavor while also offering practical benefits. The add-in eliminates the need for complex third-party tools, enabling players to quickly and efficiently gather in-game data and make informed decisions without requiring coding knowledge. By working closely with Microsoft’s Excel team, CCP Games has ensured seamless integration and accessibility.

The add-in grants players access to various data sets, including asset locations, item values, market orders, prices, wallet transactions, and skill progression. With this information readily available, players can generate custom reports, visualize data through graphs and charts, and gain deeper insights into their gameplay. CCP Games highlights that EVE Online is the “first and only” video game to officially offer Excel-based data integration.
Catherine Pidgeon, Microsoft’s Head of Product, Excel, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, “With the add-in, the EVE Online player base can seamlessly export and manage data without third-party tools. Through this collaboration, we’re excited to see how players of EVE Online of all skill levels can use Excel to streamline data management and take their in-game experience to new heights.”
To access the add-in, EVE Online players can go to the “Insert” tab in Excel (desktop or web), click on the “Get Add-ins” button, and search for EVE Online. Alternatively, the add-in can be found in the Microsoft Store. CCP Games has also provided a sample workbook to assist players in getting started with the tool.
The introduction of the Microsoft Excel add-in marks a significant milestone for EVE Online, offering players a new dimension of gameplay and strategic decision-making through data analysis. As players delve into this new feature, it will be interesting to see how they leverage data to shape their virtual empires in the vast universe of EVE Online.
