Elon Musk Launches New AI Company, Continuing to Push Boundaries of Technology

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has founded a new artificial intelligence (AI) company called X.AI Corp, according to reports from The Wall Street Journal and The Financial Times. The company was reportedly incorporated in Nevada and lists Musk as the sole director, with Jared Birchall, the director of his family’s offices, serving as the secretary.

Musk has previously co-founded OpenAI, but he left the company nearly a decade ago. The entrepreneur has recently been critical of AI development, and has advocated for the regulation of the technology. He has expressed concerns about AI being politically biased, and has called for AI models that are “truth-seeking.”

Details on X.AI Corp’s specific AI-related plans are still unclear, but reports indicate that Musk has hired two former DeepMind researchers and purchased 10,000 GPUs for AI development at one of Twitter’s data centers. Musk is also said to be in talks with Tesla and SpaceX investors to secure funding for the new venture.

While Musk has not commented publicly on the new company, it is known that he has a special affinity for the letter “X” and has even renamed Twitter, Inc. as X Corp. It remains to be seen what Musk’s AI ambitions for X.AI Corp are, but his previous forays into the field suggest that he will be looking to create AI models that are impartial and truth-seeking.
