EA shows off Wild Hearts, a Monster Hunter-style game

EA revealed earlier this month that it will collaborate with Dynasty Warriors studio Omega Force on a Monster Hunter-style action game. The first trailer for the title, entitled Wild Hearts, was released today by the firms (not to be confused with the excellent indie game Sayonara Wild Hearts). The game is advertised as “an epic journey set in a fantasy world inspired by feudal Japan,” and the first trailer displays gameplay that seems to be quicker than Monster Hunter, with creative traps, vast landscapes, and some very terrible animals. The game will be available for solo play as well as “seamless co-op.”

Given the popularity of Monster Hunter World, EA’s entry into the hunting genre comes as no surprise. When it was first published in 2018, the more open-ended take on the long-running franchise went on to become Capcom’s best-selling product, selling more than 18 million copies across several platforms. (And by a wide margin: Capcom’s second best-selling game, Resident Evil 7, has sold 11 million copies.) However, there has been little competition to MonHun’s distinctive brand of action too far.

While Omega Force is most known for the Dynasty Warriors game, the company has progressively moved into developing spinoffs for some of gaming’s most popular brands, including The Legend of Zelda and Fire Emblem.

Wild Hearts will be available for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on February 17th, 2023.
