The Transformers property has had a slew of games produced throughout the course of its almost 40-year existence, and it may be making a foray into the MMO genre in the near future if certain Transformers: Rise rumours are correct. The leaks are the result of a content producer claiming to have insider knowledge of the long-running online game, which purportedly started development in 2011 and has had at least two developers work on it. According to the leaks, the game is still very much alive, will tie in some of the most important components of the Transformers world, and will be released during the franchise’s next major film release.
Transformers: Rise is the rumoured title of the console-MMO under development by Certain Affinity, an Austin, Texas-based indie developer founded in 2006 by many former Bungie workers. The developer has mostly assisted in the multiplayer development of several Halo and Call of Duty games, with extra work done on the original Left 4 Dead and 2016’s Doom, however, it has launched unique products in the shape of Age of Booty in 2008 and Crimson Alliance in 2011. Certain Affinity apparently started production on Transformers: Rise in 2017, thus taking over from Netdragon, which had ceased development on their Transformers Online game in 2012.
The fresh Transformers: Rise leak comes from video creator RoboGamer1HD, who shared the supposed information on his YouTube channel before it made its way to the Transformers Online subreddit. According to Robo, the game is not only still in production, but Certain Affinity has actually finished it and has marketing materials ready to go, with Hasbro likely serving as the game’s publisher. According to Robo, Hasbro is holding off on releasing the game in order to profit from the forthcoming film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

Robo then discusses what players may anticipate from the game’s plot, which he claims will centre in some way on Unicron. According to him, Certain Affinity’s first pitch called for Unicron to be the main antagonist and a significant raid boss, but balance concerns owing to Unicron’s huge size caused the company to “sideline” the villain. Robo adds that it is unclear if the allegedly completed game still includes Unicron or whether the planet-sized robot may emerge in a hypothetical expansion.
The last piece of information Robo discusses are two reportedly leaked Transformers: Rise sequences. The Autobot Ratchet and the Decepticon Shockwave are believed to appear in one sequence, while Starscream and Optimus Prime are said to appear in the other. Robo emphasises that the prospective cutscenes are still in the works and do not include any of the franchise’s usual voice cast members, such as Peter Cullen.
While Robo seems to be confident in the information he is presenting, he cautions that nothing has been verified. Players may argue that it is a valid statement since, despite claims of an MMO Transformers game throughout the previous decade, nothing seems to have come of it. It doesn’t imply Robo’s information is wrong, but only time will tell whether these disclosures are real.
