Bungie, the developer behind the Destiny game series, have announced that the expansion for Destiny 2, titled ‘The Final Shape’, has been delayed to the June of 2024, owing to the ongoing layoffs in the organisation. The exapansion was supposed to bring an end to the main storyline of the story, but the team responsible for this expansion was laid off for unknown reasons, bringing the work to a grinding halt.
Bungie has said that the cause for the delay in the release of the expansion is not layoffs, but rather that they are still not fully convinced that the content in the expansion is not what they want it to be and that they still need some time to finesse the content and give gamers something that will be truly memorable.
In order to offset the delay, Bungie has announced that ‘Season of the Wish’, which is the final season in the game’s calendar, will bring in more content that previously anticipated. This will begin in February and will have events known as wishes, which will offer some attractive rewards to those who win the level.
Along with the expansion, Bungie has also pushed it’s ‘Marathon’ reboot to 2025, and that show exactly how badly they have been affected by the layoffs and the delays it brings. Hopefully the developers can settle down, find some peace, and restart working on their projects
