DC is introducing a new Ultra tier to its Universe Infinite comic book subscription service, which will allow you to read comics digitally one month after they reach store shelves. The new tier goes live on Monday at a special introductory price of $99 per year, but this offer is only valid through November 28th, and DC hasn’t said how much it will cost after that.
Users must now wait six months following the release of a new comic in DC Universe Infinite. While the new tier may appeal to devoted comic book readers, it is much more costly than the normal membership option, which costs $74.99 per year or $7.99 per month.
In addition to a shortened launch time, DC is including 5,000 unique titles from Vertigo, DC Black Label, and Collected Editions, increasing the total number of accessible comics for Ultra members to over 32,000. Anyone who upgrades to the new tier will also be eligible for one free physical comic book, beginning with The Death of Superman 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, which has a special cover drawn by Ivan Reis.
With the addition of the new Ultra tier, DC Universe Infinite may be able to compete with Marvel Unlimited, which reduced its digital release schedule to three months in 2020. In addition to its usual $9.99/month or $69/year options, Marvel Unlimited offers a $99/year Plus plan that includes exclusive goods, discounts on Disney’s online store, and other goodies that are renewed on a monthly basis.
