During a development update on the progress of Darkest Dungeon 2, it was reported that the first game had recently achieved “an astounding milestone of 6 million copies” sold, with an extra byline claiming that the game had sold 16 million copies altogether, including the game’s downloadable content.
The basic game has already sold 5 million copies as of September 2021. That’s about a million copies sold every year since its introduction in 2016, so it’s hardly surprising that after another year, another million units were sold, bringing the total sales to 6 million. Given that mod support for Darkest Dungeon is still highly active, interest in the game seems to be very substantial. Even after introducing and effectively implementing a slew of novel gaming concepts, the gameplay remains unparalleled.
