‘Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty’ will be available as a paid DLC

CD Projekt Red (CDPR) announced in September that it will release Phantom Liberty, an expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 that would introduce characters and a new setting to the game. Now, the developer has stated that if you want to see what’s new in Night City, you’ll have to pay for the DLC when it becomes available. “As for the expansion’s cost – we have not announced the information yet, but it will be a paid one,” CDPR’s worldwide PR director Radek Grabowski told GamesRadar+. According to Grabowski, the developer’s expansions are “traditionally cheaper than full-price titles.” It’s worth noting that Cyberpunk 2077 cost $60 when it first came out.

Phantom Liberty is a spy thriller about espionage for the New United States of America. It will feature the game’s primary protagonist V as well as Keanu Reeves’ iconic Cyberpunk 2077 character Johnny Silverhand. When the DLC was initially announced, CDPR said that it would only be available on the Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, and PC. It will miss the PS4 and Xbox One entirely, which is probably unsurprising given the developer’s problems with the main game’s release.

If you remember, the game’s first release was hampered by bugs and malfunctions, with some even preventing players from completing objectives and progressing. It performed particularly poorly on older-generation consoles, leading the developer to publish a statement promising to provide updates to make the game playable. Because of the problems, Sony Interactive Entertainment removed the game from the PlayStation Store and issued refunds to anybody who requested one. Nonetheless, Cyberpunk 2077 was able to overcome its flawed debut because of CDPR’s continuous patching and the release of a Netflix animation. The developer revealed in October that it would embark on a sequel to the game called “Orion” that will “further expand the potential” of the sci-fi brand.
