Chrono Cross Remaster Receives Highly-Anticipated Update, Bringing New Features and Improvements

Square Enix has announced that a long-awaited update for Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition will be released later this month, addressing some of the game’s most egregious flaws. Chrono Cross is a popular role-playing game for the PlayStation platform that was published in 1999. The game is a sequel to the classic Chrono Trigger, developed by Square Enix.

Because of the recent popularity of vintage game remasters and remakes, many fans have been hoping for a Chrono Cross remaster for current platforms. It appeared as though their dream would be realised when Square Enix released Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition in April 2022, which was promised to be an upgraded edition of the original game. The remaster seems to be a good version of the original Chrono Cross, with an additional tale, HD character visuals, higher-quality sound effects, toggleable monster encounters, an improved screen resolution, and an automated battle system. Sadly, the game was riddled with technical faults, bugs, unstable framerates, and other issues.

Nearly a year later, Square Enix confirmed on Twitter that the Chrono Cross remake will receive a substantial update in February. While no official date has been set, the update promises to deliver a range of changes, including framerate improvements, tweaks to Pip’s growth mechanism, and bug fixes.

It’ll be fascinating to watch how the patch affects Pip’s mechanics. Pip is a unique playable character, who may be unlocked by first releasing him from his prison situated in the Viper Mansion, and then enlisting him after aboard the S.S. Invincible. The most intriguing aspect of Pip is that he can evolve during the game. Pip’s future form is determined by the Elements he uses in battle and the Elements that are used on him. Apart from the fact that Pip’s evolutions are easily mishandled by players, he is also the victim of an infamous flaw that causes him to lose the stats he obtained through evolving.

While the update appears to be great news for Chrono Cross enthusiasts, it begs the issue of why it took so long. It appears like some fans are grateful for the updates, while others are decrying the fact that the game had no more support until now, other than the day one patch. The new Chrono Cross remaster update should provide a new level of fun to the game and gratify series enthusiasts.
