OpenAI launches ChatGPT ‘Year in Review’ feature for Plus and Team users

OpenAI has launched a personalized year-end summary for ChatGPT users to track their interactions with the chatbot over the past twelve months. This feature, titled “Year in Review,” generates a series of slides within the mobile and web applications that categorize a user’s most common inquiries, creative projects, and technical support requests from 2025.

The tool analyzes conversation history to identify recurring themes and interests. It provides users with specific data points, such as the total number of words generated, the most active time of day for prompts, and a “User Persona” based on the nature of their conversations. For example, a user who frequently asks for coding assistance might be labeled a “Developer,” while someone using the tool for meal planning might be designated a “Life Optimizer.” The summary is designed to be shared on social media platforms, mimicking the presentation style of services like Spotify Wrapped or Nintendo Year in Review.

The implementation of the feature relies on the internal metadata of a user’s account. However, initial reports from the user base indicate discrepancies in how the AI categorizes intent. Some users have noted that the “Top Topics” section occasionally groups unrelated queries together or highlights minor interactions while omitting long-term projects. Unlike music streaming services that track specific song IDs, ChatGPT must interpret natural language, which leads to a less precise statistical breakdown of activity.

Privacy remains a central focus of the rollout. OpenAI states that the Year in Review data is generated locally for the user and is not shared publicly unless the user chooses to export the summary. Users who have opted out of chat history and training are ineligible for the feature, as the system does not retain the long-term records necessary to compile the annual statistics.

The feature also highlights the evolution of the platform over the year, including the transition to the GPT-4o model and the introduction of Advanced Voice Mode. It specifically tracks how often users utilized these newer capabilities compared to standard text-based interactions.

The ChatGPT Year in Review is currently available to ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. Free-tier users may receive a limited version of the report if they have maintained a consistent chat history throughout the year. The feature is accessible via a banner on the home screen of the ChatGPT app or through the account settings menu. It will remain available for viewing until January 31, 2026. Access to the full suite of ChatGPT features requires a monthly subscription fee of $20 for the Plus tier.
