Canon introduces the Powershot V10 as a unique and quirky alternative to Sony for vlogging cameras. This new offering from Canon boasts a 1-inch sensor similar to the Canon Powershot G7 X III, with 4K/30p and Full HD 60p video recording, as well as 20MP JPEG images. However, the Canon Powershot V10 is not a regular camera, as it features a distinct design concept that is solely meant for vlogging.
The Canon Powershot V10 is a stripped-down and simple camera, purpose-built for vlogging, and is ready to use at the push of a button. The camera is small and pocketable, fitting comfortably in the palm of one’s hand and featuring a built-in fold-out stand that eliminates the need for a tripod. Additionally, recording is initiated using a big fat button, and the menus are easy to navigate, with the 2-inch flip-up touchscreen featuring a shortcut for four video recording modes.
The ultra-wide fixed 18mm lens (19mm for photography) is an intelligent choice for the camera as it provides a broad frame, perfect for holding at arm’s length or placing beside you on its stand while recording content. Furthermore, the V10 is equipped with two large stereo omnidirectional mics, a 3.5mm stereo jack, and an auto wind filter, making recording audio a breeze.
The Canon Powershot V10 will be available from June 2023, priced at $399 / £429 / AU$699 for the vlogging kit, which includes a rubber lens cap made by SmallRig and magnetic windshields for the stereo mics on top of the camera. There is also an advanced vlogging kit available only in Europe, which comes with a SmallRig cage and is priced at £459. Although the tech inside the camera is dated, going back at least four years to the Powershot G7 X III, the Powershot V10 is unique and charming, and its purpose-built design makes it a viable option for vlogging.
