Sledgehammer Games has exciting news for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players. The game is set to receive a ranked multiplayer mode during Season One, bringing a modernized and enhanced experience to fans. This announcement came during the CoD: Next event, which also showcased the game’s impressive roster of 20 launch maps.
The ranked multiplayer mode development falls under the capable hands of Treyarch, who are known for their expertise in this area. Greg Reisdorf, the multiplayer creative director at Sledgehammer Games, expressed their enthusiasm for working with Treyarch, emphasizing the fantastic job they do. Players can expect an update that modernizes the ranked multiplayer, drawing inspiration from the highly regarded Modern Warfare 2. This enhanced ranked multiplayer mode is scheduled for launch in Season 1.5, marking the mid-point of Season One.
The decision to introduce ranked play midway through Season One is a deliberate one. It allows both returning and new players to become acquainted with the game and its new modes before the complexity of ranked gameplay is added. Further details about the ranked mode will be disclosed by Treyarch in due course.
The CoD: Next event also provided an exclusive glimpse into the 20 playable launch maps. Among them, 16 are inspired by the original 2009 title, while the remaining four include three Large-Scale Battle Maps and one colossal ‘War’ Map. The developer has exciting plans for the future, with additional maps set to be added in upcoming seasons. Season One will kick off this process by introducing three new maps, followed by three more in Season Two. By the end of the game’s live season, players can expect a total of 12 6v6 maps, each with its distinct locales.
Modern Warfare 3 will feature Call of Duty: World War II’s narrative-driven ‘War Mode’ from day one, alongside map voting and the return of the classic red dot mini-map. The game’s new perk system also promises fresh gameplay dynamics.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is scheduled for release on November 10, available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox One. Players who have pre-ordered the game will have the opportunity to participate in the open beta, with start dates varying according to the platform.
