BOE Introduces Advanced ADS Pro IPS LCD Smartphone Display with High Refresh Rate and Energy Efficiency

BOE Technology Group, one of the world’s leading mobile display manufacturers, has unveiled a new generation of IPS LCD technology called ADS Pro that is set to raise the bar for smartphone screens in the budget segment. The new panel measures 6.74 inches and delivers a resolution of 2720 × 1224 pixels, which translates to a high pixel density of approximately 443 ppi. This ensures that images and text remain sharp and clear, even on larger screens.

The ADS Pro panel supports variable refresh rates, with options of either 120Hz or 144Hz. Rather than using fully adaptive refresh, the display switches between fixed steps, such as 30Hz, 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, and 144Hz, depending on the device’s requirements and user activity. Higher refresh rates are associated with smoother animations, quicker touch response, and an overall more fluid user experience, which has traditionally been confined to more premium smartphone models.

One of the major talking points of this new panel is its peak whole-display brightness of around 1,500 nits. Such high brightness levels mean that the screen remains easily viewable even under direct sunlight, enhancing usability in outdoor environments. This level of performance is notable for an IPS LCD and places the panel’s brightness capabilities in line with some high-end OLED displays currently on the market.

BOE has also focused on energy efficiency. According to the manufacturer, the new ADS Pro panel consumes up to 20 percent less power when compared to similar panels of previous generations. This reduction is achieved through improved backlighting and display management, which can directly contribute to longer battery life for end users.

The new ADS Pro IPS LCD panel is expected to be adopted by manufacturers producing budget smartphones priced below EUR 150. This move is likely to bring advanced display features, such as high refresh rates and superior brightness, to a much larger segment of the global smartphone market, improving the overall experience for users who opt for affordable devices.

Consumers can expect to see the ADS Pro panel in a range of upcoming devices, marking a significant step forward in making high-quality displays mainstream in the entry-level segment.
