Battlefield 2042 Update 4.2.0 Introduces Reworked Launch Map

DICE’s Battlefield 2042 has received a new update, version 4.2.0, which includes significant changes to one of the game’s original maps, Discarded. The update is part of the developer’s ongoing support for the multiplayer shooter, which has continued to improve the game’s launch state since its release in late 2021.

The update will rework the Discarded map, which includes a large graveyard of disheveled ships and a flooded village that players fight over. Among the changes are the addition of more control flags, the relocation of existing flags, and the introduction of a new Salvage Yard area that will provide players with more cover against enemy vehicles. Additionally, more cover has been added to the Dismantled Hull area to protect players from snipers.

The changes to Discarded aim to address criticism from players who have found Battlefield 2042’s original maps to be too open, with little cover for players on foot. With the rework, players can expect better survivability when traversing long distances between flags.

The update to Discarded is expected to be followed by a rework to Hourglass, one of the game’s most visually distinct maps, in the upcoming fifth season, set to begin in early June. Battlefield 2042 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
