In the world of Baldur’s Gate 3, player decisions hold significant weight, often leading to various consequences. However, a unique and rather bizarre discovery has been made by players looking to recruit the Drow Paladin companion Minthara. This unconventional method involves transforming her into a sheep to circumvent some negative outcomes. Be aware, though, there are spoilers ahead for the game’s first and second acts, so proceed with caution if you’re a newcomer to the game.
As PC Gamer reports, recruiting Minthara isn’t a decision to take lightly. She’s not your typical companion, and adding her to your team involves some rather serious actions, including murder, which understandably, not all other companions are comfortable with. In fact, some companions might even leave your party if you choose this path. If you’d rather avoid the moral dilemma, there’s a peculiar workaround.
This unconventional tactic was first discovered by gamer pao870111 and translated, as well as demonstrated, by Reddit user ZookeepergameDeep360. Here’s the step-by-step process:
1. Act One:
- During the “Kill the Goblin Leaders” quest, non-lethally knock out Minthara by attacking her.
- Proceed to eliminate the other two Goblin Leaders.
- Take a long rest, causing Minthara to respawn.
2. Act Two:
- Reach level seven and acquire the Polymorph and Dominate Beast spells.
- Return to Minthara in the Goblin Camp and transform her into a sheep using Polymorph.
- Use Dominate Beast to make her a temporary companion.
3. Continue the Quest:
- Teleport to Moonrise Towers with Minthara, keeping her in sheep form.
- Carry her across the bridge into Ketheric Thorm’s throne room, reapplying the spells if necessary.
- Gently place her in the room.
At this point, Minthara will go through her judgment process as she normally does in an “evil” playthrough. Interestingly, she remains a sheep throughout this phase. Only after she’s sentenced to death, and you work to save her by getting her into the jail room and triggering a story scene, can you recruit her in her non-sheep form.
However, the Reddit user who demonstrated this unusual method has cautioned that it’s rather buggy. It’s evident that these events were not planned by the developers, so if you decide to try it, expect some hiccups along the way. Saving your game before attempting this unconventional recruitment method is advisable.
