Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series X|S is still wrestling with some save data hiccups, but word on the street is, they’re becoming less of a headache after a recent firmware tweak. For those not in the loop, after the Xbox Series X|S version of Baldur’s Gate 3 made its grand entrance at The Game Awards on December 7, players started sweating bullets when their precious save files decided to pull a vanishing act after a crash. Larian Studios and the Microsoft squad jumped into detective mode pronto – they told Xbox users to keep their consoles plugged in even when snoozing and to bid a proper farewell to the game when they’re done.
Fast forward to this Saturday (December 16), and Michael Douse, the head honcho of publishing at Larian Studios, dropped the scoop on Twitter / X. The save troubles are still kinda hanging around, with fresh cries for help from players, even though the “supposedly magical” firmware update rolled out. The good news? Reports have taken a nosedive by more than 75% since Thursday’s lifesaving patch.
“We’re stuck in a waiting game for now, it’s on the firmware side,” Douse spilled. “Keep that Xbox of yours connected to the internet whenever you can. Losing your game progress? Not cool. I get it. Just know that the tech wizards are on it. Fingers crossed for updates soon.”
He looped back to the classic advice: shut down the game entirely and keep your Xbox juiced up, and statistically, you shouldn’t be dealing with any save vanishing acts.
