Larian Studios, the developer behind Baldur’s Gate 3, has encountered a setback as the latest game patch was rolled back due to unexpected crashes. While the intention was to enhance gameplay and resolve existing issues, the hotfix four release resulted in unforeseen problems that prompted the developer to take swift action.
The hotfix, which was released recently, aimed to fine-tune certain features and address ongoing problems within the game. Unfortunately, shortly after its implementation, Larian Studios posted an update on Twitter informing players that the hotfix had to be rolled back due to issues causing crashes.
Larian Studios’ official statement on Twitter read, “Due to a build error causing new crashes, we’ve rolled back hotfix four for the time being. We’ll re-release it as soon as we’ve fixed the cause.”
Players who were actively engaged in the game during the hotfix implementation and subsequently saved their progress will encounter a temporary inconvenience. The studio clarified that while players can continue playing from their last save point, they won’t be able to load saves made during the time the problematic hotfix was active. Larian Studios extended their apologies for any inconvenience caused by this situation.
The developer emphasized that players will need to wait until the re-release of the patch to access their most recent saves. Regrettably, no specific timeframe has been provided for when the fixed hotfix will be reintroduced.
Despite this setback, Baldur’s Gate 3 has enjoyed a highly successful launch, earning accolades as one of the best-reviewed games of 2023. The game’s impressive Metacritic rating of 97/100 even surpassed The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Larian Studios’ CEO and founder, Swen Vincke, shared insights into the upcoming plans for the game. A substantial update is in the pipeline, promising around 1,000 fixes and improvements. The recently rolled-back hotfix four was meant to be a stepping stone towards this major update. Following its resolution, the focus will shift to patch one, followed by patch two. The second patch is anticipated to incorporate community-driven suggestions, potentially featuring the long-awaited ability for players to alter their in-game appearance—a feature that is reportedly already under development.
