Audi Reveals R26 Concept for 2026 Entry with New Red Rings Identity and a Target of a Championship Fight by 2030

Audi presented the R26 Concept in Munich as an early preview of the car that will mark its entry into Formula 1 in 2026. The design study introduces the visual identity that the 2026 challenger will follow when it is revealed in January. The colour scheme features titanium tones, carbon black surfaces and a new Audi red that replaces the traditional silver used in previous motorsport projects. The brand’s four rings have also been reimagined as red rings, signalling a shift in how Audi intends to position itself within Formula 1 and beyond.

Chief Creative Officer Massimo Fraschella described the project as more than a motorsport entry. He said the R26 Concept reflects a broader update to Audi’s brand identity that will extend to production vehicles as well. The company sees its participation in Formula 1 as a platform to strengthen this direction and demonstrate a unified design and performance philosophy across its range.

Audi has set a clear competitive ambition for its first years in the championship. CEO Gernot Dörner stated that the company plans to become a world championship contender by 2030. He framed the F1 programme as a central element in Audi’s wider renewal strategy, describing the entry as a catalyst for increased innovation. To build the structure required for this target, Audi completed its acquisition of the Sauber Group. The team now includes high profile leadership such as former Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto and former Red Bull sporting director Jonathan Wheatley.

With one hundred and fifteen days remaining until Audi’s first race, preparations are in an advanced stage. The final race car will be revealed in January 2026, after which the team will begin its on track development programme. Audi enters the championship with a record of success in endurance racing and rally competition. Its engineering foundation, combined with the new leadership structure, forms the basis of its belief that it can become competitive in Formula 1 within the stated timeframe.

The R26 Concept represents an early step in this process. It conveys the visual message Audi wants to project while offering a glimpse into the direction of its upcoming works team. The path to achieving a title challenge by 2030 will require consistent progress in both chassis and power unit development. The unveiling marks the formal beginning of that journey.
