Fans of the Armored Core series have been waiting over a decade for the franchise’s return, and now FromSoftware has finally announced that Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon will launch on August 25th. The new game, which takes advantage of the developer’s expanded resources and is a reboot of the series, promises to be a fast-paced mecha-based title with fresh story and gameplay details.
Armored Core VI’s story is set on the planet Rubicon, where a precious and dangerous resource called Coral has been discovered. The planet is a world of “hollowed-out industrial ruins” concealed beneath a corporate “shiny shell of state-of-the-art mining constructs encasing the planet”. Players will explore this intricate and multi-layered world, which is filled with mega-structures and enormous underground facilities built by its former inhabitants.
The game features a new gameplay mechanic called the Assault Boost, which allows players to switch instantly between long-range shooting and melee combat. Additionally, the customization element has been fine-tuned, with changes to the head, core, arms, and leg parts affecting the behavior of the mecha in significant ways. FromSoftware has also focused on reflecting these changes in customization in the way the game and action feel.
Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is available for pre-order in both standard and deluxe editions for PlayStation 5 / 4, Xbox Series X / S, Xbox One, and PC. With its exciting new story and gameplay details, fans of the franchise have a lot to look forward to when the game launches later this year.
