Armored Core 6’s Development Proves a Learning Curve for FromSoft, Similar to Bloodborne

In a recent interview, Armored Core 6 director Masaru Yamamura and producer Yasunori Ogura discussed the development process for the upcoming title, shedding light on their decision-making regarding the game’s world design and combat mechanics.

The developers aimed to tap into the essence of the Armored Core series and bring that approach to a modern FromSoftware game. While they didn’t directly take anything from recent titles, they acknowledged the influence of their general approach to game design, drawing parallels to how Bloodborne was a faster and more aggressive take on the Souls formula.

From their previous battle design experiences, they learned to incorporate a lot of aggression and adjust the tempo of combat in Armored Core 6.

Regarding world design, the team considered going for a more open-world approach but ultimately decided against it to preserve the freedom of mech assembly and movement within the game’s space.

The design team sought inspiration from old sci-fi, aiming for a nostalgic and traditional feel that captures a sense of scale and time passing in the game’s environments.

Overall, Armored Core 6 is intended to offer a distinctive experience, separate from other titles like Elden Ring. Early previews of the game have praised its emphasis on freedom and personalization.
