When Apple launched the M3 family of chipsets at their ‘Scary Fast’ event, the fact that caught everyone’s attention was the company’s claim that the M3 processor is the fastest processor they have built. This claim seemed far fetched to a few as the M2 chipset really set the benchmark scores alight and everyone was wondering how Apple was possibly going to improve on this performance. The event was a resounding success with the company unveiling not just their new family of chipsets, but also two new MacBooks and a new iMac.
All that was left was to see if Apple’s claim was true, and judging by the recently leaked benchmark scores, it seems that Apple has made good on its claims. Not only is the M3 chipset faster, it is a full 20% faster than the M2 chipset, which is a significant bump up in performance.
The singe core benchmark scores come in at 3000 for the M3 chipset, while the multi core benchmark scores come in at an impressive 11,700. When you compare this to the M2 scores (2,570 and 9,600 respectively), you can see that the improvement is quite significant.
Now, these numbers are still early, and there is still some ambiguity around which Mac device was tested for this test. Also, there other tests also required and it will be a few months before we start seeing the actual performance benchmarks of the M3 chipsets, but it seems that the initial numbers indicate that the company is on the right track.
